1200 MW Hydel Projects Initiated In KP: Seminar Told

Participants of a seminar here on Tuesday told that Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO) has initiated over 1200 MW hydel power generation projects in KP with
public and private sectors initiatives.

It was said that among projects of 1200 MW 514 MW were in public sector and 300 MW in Balakot with ADB funding while projects of 668 MW were of private sector. It was told that besides these 356 micro hydel power projects generating 35.6 MW would be completed this year costing five billion rupees benefiting a population of 350,000 people.

Currently PEDO is operating 105 MW hydel power projects and has identified 29 projects to generate 3900 MW electricity. As Pakistan has the capacity of generating 60,000 MW hydel power generation of which only 7000 MW has so far been tapped. The provincial government is trying to initiate projects with a potential of 30,000 MW electricity, participants were informed.

Seminar besides Chairman PTI, Imran Khan, Jehangir Khan Tareen, Asad Umar, KP Ministers, Muhammad Atif, Akber Ayub, Shahram Khan Tarakai, Senators and MNAs were attended by local and foreign investors.

Addressing on the occasion, PTI Chairman Imran Khan said that KP is following policies of transparency in its matters while congenial environment has been witnessed due to satisfactory law and order situation.
