Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shaukat Aziz has said that Infrastructure construction along the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) route enables economic growth for Pakistan. He said CPEC is a major and pilot project between the two countries under the Belt and Road Initiative. He expressed these remarks while in an interview with a Chinese news agency.
“The main areas of finance are drivers of economic growth — roads, electricity generation, ports, railways etc.”, he added. He maintained that projects focusing on energy and transport infrastructure had been launched in Pakistan under CPEC, which would lead to job creation in both Pakistan and China.
Former PM said that projects under CPEC also meant more employment and growth opportunities for China, as it would give Chinese enterprises a market of some 200 million people. “That’s why we call it a win-win for both.” He told. He was of the view that the excitement over CPEC in Pakistan was also because China was putting up power plants, which would significantly ease the power shortage in Pakistan.
Shaukat Aziz said that the Belt and Road Initiative would take China-Pakistan relationship to the next level. He said that Pakistan and China relationship was deep, historic and multi-faceted, and increasing physical linkages would further enrich the relationship. In a nutshell, the former Pakistani prime minister said that the Belt and Road Initiative was a driver for growth, prosperity, peace and better understanding between nations in the entire world.
