Islamabad: Minister of Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has said that the Gawadar-Quetta cargo service would now be functional in December. This was revealed while talking about the 2nd interim report on China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) which was presented to the senate by Committee senator Taj Haider.
The 660 km long Quetta- Gawadar section had been completed in three years. A tribute was also paid to the seventeen personals of Frontier Workers Organization who lost their lives when the road was being constructed.
Ahsan Iqbal added that representatives from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan are both satisfied with CPEC’s work so far. Government allocated 35 billion to the western route of CPEC in the budget. It was added that 35 billion has been allocated for energy sector projects including 11 billion for Sindh and 9 billion for Punjab. 22 billion has also been allocated for Dera Ismael Khan-Burhan section with 17 billion for Havelian-Thakot section and 19 billion for Multan- Sukkur.
CPEC will also be connected to Indus highway and an amount of 5.4 billion has been allocated and 3.3 billion has been allocated for Zhob and Mughal kot.
