National Assembly was told that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and TIR Convention will help expand transit, bilateral and regional trade in future which would be beneficial for Pakistan’s economy. The Minister for Commerce, Khurram Dastgir Khan, said that the government has exceeded to TIR Convention 1975 which would soon be operationalized and would help increase trade. The Minister also said the revenue has increased from border trade with Afghanistan, Iran and China which is why the government is cooperating with custom authorities to see the smuggling and facilitate legal trade.
Khurram Dastgir also added that as a matter of policy, Pakistan had granted the Most Favored Nation [MFN] status to all countries except Israel and India. He also said that six-lane 136 kilometer long Karachi-Hyderabad motorway is being made on Built, Operate and Transfer basis. The FWO is constructing the motorway and would be responsible for the maintenance as well for 25 years. Service roads are also being built along the motorway for the people in the area.
