Pak-China Agree To Collaborate In Tea Research

Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) and Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences here on Friday agreed for exchanging tea germplasm to promote the tea production. The agreement to this effect was made in a meeting of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and PARC, said a statement.

A Chinese delegation led by Yang Yajun, Director, Tea Research Institute Hangzhou along with Lin Zhi, Head of Department of Sciences and Technology and Yuanzhi Shi, Associate Professor has visited PARC.

The both sides discussed issues relating to agriculture collaborations and collaboration in tea research for the development of the sector. Chairman PARC Dr Yusuf Zafar informed the delegates about the working and operations of PARC and several projects for agri-
development. Dr Ahmad Bakhsh Mahar, Member Plant Sciences Division of PARC, Dr. Muhammad Tariq, Secretary PARC and other senior scientists of PARC Tea Project were also present in the meeting.

The Chinese delegation also visited National Tea and High Value Crops Research Institute (NTHRI) of PARC at Shinkiari, Mansehra in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and witnessed tea crop field area. Both sides also agreed for exchanging of tea germplasm as per requirement to assist NTHRI in selection and evaluation of suitable germplasm for black tea. They also agreed for preparation of plan for improvement in green tea processing, training program for scientists and exchange of research and scientific material as well as publication and
information to promote the sector.
