Islamabad: The Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal said that Saudi Arabia and Iran’s desire to join China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a good step and Pakistan welcomes their involvement.
He said that, “Pakistan welcomes both the brotherly Islamic countries, if they want to be part of CPEC.” It was added that Pakistan would welcome and appreciate any friendly country who desired to participate in the flagship project of ‘One Belt One Road’ initiative which was launched by the Chinese President, Xi Jining.
The federal minister said also said that CPEC is a trans-regional project which would benefit three billion people of the region by enhanced regional connectivity with Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces which would integrate the whole region.
Ahsan Iqbal said work on western route of CPEC is progressing in full swing and he reaffirmed that the route would be completed by 2018. 650 kilometers long Gwadar-Quetta section of the Western Route would be completed by December 2016.
The minister also said that with completion of the western route, people living in the underdeveloped areas would witness a new era of development and prosperity.
