The meeting between the Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammd Nawaz Sharif and his Chinese Counterpart Li Keqiang on the sidelines of UN General Assembly Session was mainly focused on smooth implementation and timely completion of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Chinese media reported. The two leaders urged the timely completion of planned corridor and also expediting the construction of Gwadar port and its supporting facility. The Chinese premier said the CPEC ensures peace, prosperity in the region and more Chinese companies would come in the industrial parks. Li also expressed hope that the Pakistani government would take measures for the security of Chinese engineers and staff working on the projects in the country. He called for strengthening cooperation in fields concerning public welfare such as education, medical service and health care and drinking water projects, to benefit more Pakistani regions and people. Li in his remarks further said that China was ready to inject new impetus into the development of bilateral relations through joint efforts with Islamabad
Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif assured the Chinese premier that he would make efforts to accelerate the construction of the economic corridor and vowed to take measures to ensure the safety of Chinese project staff. He said that China and Pakistan were time-tested friends and partners who had firmly supported each other. As their relations develop very smoothly, bilateral cooperation in a variety of fields had also entered a new phase, the Prime Minister added. He told Li that the Pakistani side cherished friendship with China, and was committed to promote bilateral cooperation. Nawaz Sharif also lauded the Chinese companies’ high efficiency and their high-quality work in the construction of the project.
