China-US relationships are important to the well-being of the two countries’ peoples and peace, stability, and prosperity of the world, said Xi during the meeting held in the Great Hall of the People.
The bilateral relations have made important progress, Xi added.
The two sides agreed to strengthen communication and coordination on issues including the Korean Peninsula and Afghanistan, said Xi.
During the meeting, Trump expressed appreciation to Xi for China’s warm welcome, saying the meeting between the two leaders was excellent.
“There’s great chemistry, and I think we’re going to do fantastic things (for China and the US),” said Trump.
Talking about the DPRK issue, Trump said: “I do believe there is a solution to that.”
The US president arrived in Beijing on Wednesday afternoon to start his first state visit to China since taking office.
After Trump’s arrival, Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan invited President Trump and his wife Melania Trump to visit the Palace Museum, or the Forbidden City, in Beijing. Trump later tweeted that he had an “unforgettable experience” during the visit.
A welcome ceremony was held Thursday morning at the square outside the east gate of the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
